About the FUND
Any retired teacher who resides in/or taught in the Greater Bridgeport area, (which includes Bridgeport, Easton, Fairfield, Milford, Monroe, Stratford, Trumbull and Shelton), and who receives a pension from the Connecticut State Teachers Retirement Board is entitled, upon proper application, to receive the following benefits:
HOME CARE
PROVIDING SUFFICIENT FUNDS ARE AVAILABLE, any member may apply for the following benefits regardless of income:
❖ SHORT TERM Home Health care and/or home-maker assistance. The coverage limit is ten (10) hours per week for a period of up to one month at a rate of no more than $40.00 per hour.
❖ AFTER ONE MONTH, continued assistance is available, (provided a re-evaluation has been made by “HOME INSTEAD”, for a period of up to three (3) additional months).
❖ IN ORDER TO RECEIVE further coverage beyond the three (3) months, the client must have an INDIVIDUAL ANNUAL INCOME OF $58,000 or less and undergo another evaluation by Home Instead.
❖ PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS NOT LONG TERM COVERAGE.

HEALTH INSURANCE
PROVIDING SUFFICIENT FUNDS ARE AVAILABLE:
❖ Any member who is married and filing a joint return with a TAXABLE INCOME, (LINE 43, PAGE 2 OF THE TAX FORM 1040), OF $97,000 OR LESS, or an Individual with a TAXABLE INCOME OF $58,000 OR LESS, may apply for these benefits.
❖ Applicants must provide the first two (2) pages of their most recently filed 1040 income tax form, which must contain the client’s legible signature and a copy of their 1099-R form from the State of Connecticut Teachers Retirement Board.
❖ The fund will pay up to $300.00 per month towards Health Insurance Premiums. Contact persons for Health Insurance: Marie Petitti .
MEDICAL ALERT SYSTEM
PROVIDING SUFFICIENT FUNDS ARE AVAILABLE:
❖ Any member whose INDIVIDUAL ANNUAL INCOME is $58,000, or less may apply for a Medical Alert System.
❖ It is up to the individual to choose a provider.
❖ The fund will pay up to $50.00 a month.
❖ Applicants must meet eligibility requirements listed under Health Insurance.

The FUND
The Greater Bridgeport Retired Teachers Fund, Inc. was established in 1983 as a result of a bequest by Florence Batchelder. The purpose of “The Fund,” as stated in the Certificateof Incorporation, is to “assist retired teachers in need in every way possible for their well-being and comfort.”
